Venkat Iyer, Chief Operating Officer of Betteredge Capital, brings over 25 years of leadership in the financial services industry, with a unique blend of expertise across business management, technology and operations, and risk management. As Chief Operating Officer of Betteredge Capital, he plays a pivotal role in shaping strategic direction, operational excellence, risk management and cross-functional collaboration across the firm while managing the day-to-day business operations.

Renowned for his ability to drive complex transformation programs and build high-performing global teams, Venkat has consistently delivered results in dynamic and diverse economic, political, and regulatory environments. He is deeply passionate about nurturing talent, fostering innovation, and ensuring seamless execution.

After graduating from Mumbai University and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Venkat began his career as a consultant with KPMG Associate Firm. He later joined Citi as a Management Associate, embarking on a career that spanned nearly 10,000 days and included progressively senior roles across the Private Bank, Retail Bank, Markets, and Transaction Services.

At Citi, Venkat’s impact was significant and far-reaching:

• Led the wind-down of a $3B credit portfolio and managed market risk exposure of over $800M in Citi’s Private Bank, earning the Corporate Award for Excellence from the Group CEO.
• Directed a multi-billion-dollar restructuring program in Japan, launching 20 projects with a $70M budget, focusing on regulatory engagement, governance, and transformation.
• As Regional Chief Auditor, led audit coverage across 20 countries managing teams of up to 60 professionals.
• Established and chaired several governance forums, including the Regional Audit Work Group and the Business Risk, Control, and Compliance Committee; he was also a founding member of the Product Approval Committee and served on the Payment System Risk Management Committee.
• As Chief Administrative Officer, oversaw Centres of Excellence (COE) across Asia supporting infrastructure, technology development, operations, and business functions for Markets, Transaction Services, and Retail Banking.
• In the early 1990s, pioneered one of the first high-volume COE focused on collections, payments, and investment transactions.

In addition to his corporate roles, Venkat has engaged in entrepreneurial ventures and advised fintech firms, developing a reputation as a thought leader within the Fintech technology ecosystem. More recently, he served as Senior Executive Advisor to Mphasis Corp in New York, supporting their business development efforts.

Venkat is a member of the Betteredge Investment Committee and Product Committee, and Advisory Board. Outside of work, he is an avid sports enthusiast and an active market observer.
